According to legends, there was no any water in the mountain when Buddhism Guanyin Temple was founded. The monks can only get water from the river at the foot of the mountain. It¡¯s really hard jobs for the monks. But all of the monks wanted to keep their beliefs to Buddhism, they never stopped their works. The monks lived very simple life in the mountain. When there was no any fruit and vegetables, they can only offer clear water to Buddhism. Buddhism Weituo lived in the front hall, he saw their hard work of carrying water. Moved by their spirit, he wanted to settle their water problem. Buddhism Weituo was a responsible Buddhism, he will do as he says. When Sakyamuni did missionary works, he followed Sakyamuni. After Sakyamuni¡¯s nirvana, he promised to keep and protect Sakyamuni¡¯s bone ash and spirit tablet for ever. So he cannot leave for acting as the patron saint of Sakyamuni¡¯s bone ash and spirit tablet. Till one day, Buddhism Guanyin came Buddhism Guanyin together with other Buddha, they gathered around the statue of Sakyamuni to pray. Weituo can make sure Sakyamuni¡¯s bone ash and spirit tablet were safe, then he decided to settle water matter at this time.

    He went down the mountain and got around many places, at last he found a well in Xiayuan village, Huairou Town. The water of this well was plenty and sweet, it made Weituo very satisfied. But he cannot carry this well away without villagers¡¯ permission. According to Buddhism laws, when someone wants to ask something from common people, he must ask for their agreement. If he got this well away without permission, it¡¯s like robbing and stealing things. He didn¡¯t want to break the law, so he waited beside the well to ask for their agreement. He has confidence and patience. But who can come here at night? There happened came a young man. This young man had to go outside very early, so he had no time to carry water the next day. When the young man carried water out of the well, Weituo asked water from him. The young know Weituo was a monk, and then gave him. When Weituo was drinking, he said, ¡°really nice water, good well¡±. And then he drank and said one more time, ¡°really nice water, good well¡±. The young man wanted to go back home earlier, so he said, ¡°If you want, take this well away.¡± Weituo just waited these words. After that young man left, he used his magic weapon to carry the well, rushed back to the temple. The well was carried away by Weituo, but there¡¯s still a hole on the place. People want to fill it, but nobody can do it well. Now there¡¯s still a hole in the yard of Huairou machine factory.

     Weituo also felt tired when he carried the well to run back to the mountain. But he must arrive before midnight. The time was too limited. There¡¯s a law for all gods that they must come back their own place before cocks cry at midnight, or they will have no chance to come back. At that time, cocks always cry at noontime and midnight. So Weituo arranged the well as soon as he came back. But when he had not yet finished, the cock cried. No way, he left the well and came back his own tablet. So this well became an inclined well. That ¡®s why we call it Holy Spring Mountain today.

    And there¡¯s still another story inside. Because the cock cried when Weituo didn¡¯t finish the well, Weituo was very angry at the cock. He said, ¡°Just because you, now the well was an inclined well.¡± From then on, cocks dared not to cry at noontime and midnight. There¡¯s a folk adage, ¡°Weituo gave the cock a lesson, and then they never cry at noon time and midnight. This folk adage just comes from this story.
